Queensland Urban Utilities to participate in $100 million critical water research program
30 May, 2012Queensland Urban Utilities will invest $1 million over nine years to participate in the newly established Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Water Sensitive Cities. The centre will undertake a national research program, which aims to revolutionise urban water management in Australia by influencing and guiding more than $100 billion in water investments and $550 billion in private sector urban investment over the next 15 years.

Huge scope to store water underground
07 May, 2012There is potential to store large volumes of Australia’s precious fresh water underground, to offset climate change, avoid evaporation losses and meet national water needs into the future, leading water scientists say. Following a major national scientific workshop in Canberra, researchers in the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT) say that managed aquifer recharge - the injection or infiltration of excess surface water into underground aquifers - could help secure the nation’s water supplies for an uncertain future.

18 April, 2012Released this week, the report, Impacts of water trading in the southern Murray-Darling Basin between 2006-07 and 2010-11, produced by the National Water Commission shows that selling water to the Commonwealth buyback program has not negatively impacted production. In fact, regional communities in the southern Murray-Darling Basin have remained productive even during drought, said Commissioner Laurie Arthur at a launch of the report at the Australian Water Congress 2012.

Pumping out new technology
22 March, 2012The laboratories at the AWMC (Advanced Water Management Centre) at The University of Queensland are set up to cater for numerous experiments to develop sustainable techniques for water management. For the range of biological and process experiments that are conducted at the university, it was important for the laboratory to have pumps that were accurate, flexible to be used in different applications and easy for the researchers to set up and integrate, with technical assistance if required. Watson-Marlow pumps were selected for this purpose.
