The construction of Sydney’s Desalination Plant has been a logistically complex undertaking for project manager the Water Delivery Alliance (WDA) in the management of waste. Being an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) approved company for the management and permanent disposal of waste streams such as on this project, Worth Recycling was appointed to work on two main sites of the project.

The X-ray Sorting System (XSS) allows new possibilities for automated sorting of mixed material. Capable of recognising different material densities, the system uses a combination of information processing and X-ray sensing technologies to distinguish materials with similar colours and weights. In October 2008, the US EPA tightened its National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for lead (Pb) from 1.5 µg/m3 to 0.15 µg/m3, measured as total suspended particulates (TSP). This change has meant a 10-fold decrease in acceptable lead levels and thus, the accuracy of monitoring equipment is even more important.
PET ‘bottle to bottle’ recycling unit

The France Plastiques Recyclage (FPR) - a joint venture for SITA France, a Suez Environment subsidiary, and the Paprec Group - has opened its first PET bottle recycling unit in Limay, France. At the successful completion of the 40-million-euro project, the plant will be able to recycle 40,000 tonnes of bottles per year, which will be directly usable, in granulate form, in the manufacture of new bottles or food product containers.
