Stormwater bacteria control

Nanotechnology and textile technology merge for stagnant stormwater bacterial control.

UltraTech's X-Tex-AM is an environmentally-friendly, non-chemical method of significantly reducing bacteria in stormwater.

An anti-microbial nano-structure covalently bonded to the textile fibres will not leach or dilute with repeated washing. The antimicrobial kills single-cell organisms by molecular physical penetration, electrostatic attraction and electrocution.

This 'electric sword' is not consumed in the process and remains at full strength ready to repeat the killing.

The textiles' flexibility allows it to be cut, formed and moulded and placed in stormwater drains and pipes where puddles and pools that provide bacterial incubators form.

Trials show that X-Tex-AM is capable of reducing faecal coliforms by 95% in 30 mins and 100% within 3 h when brand new and by 76% in 30 mins, 97% in 3 h and 100% within 24 h after many repeat washings.
