Aust company secures first European order for PFAS treatment
Australian company SciDev, which specialises in water treatment solutions, has secured a significant commercial order for PFAS (or ‘forever chemicals’) treatment in Europe.
The company will work together with Swedish Hydro Solutions AB to provide a PFAS treatment system to remediate a site in Sweden. Swedish Hydro Solutions is a leading water solutions company focusing on environmentally friendly water treatments.
Under the $475K contract, works will involve the design, construction and commissioning of a containerised PFAS water treatment plant (WTP).
Initially, this WTP will be used to treat PFAS-contaminated landfill leachate at a site in the southern part of the country. Upon proof of performance, the work could extend to a second phase.
“Securing our first commercial order for PFAS remediation in Europe is a significant milestone and demonstrates the demand for our technologies and our capability to sell into new regions,” said SciDev CEO Seán Halpin.
Halpin said the market opportunity in Europe was large and rapidly growing, with more than 17,000 sites around Europe already confirmed for PFAS contamination and another 21,000 sites with suspected contamination.
“This is the tip of the iceberg,” he added. “Tightening EU regulations and mandates to clean up PFAS will drive industrial and government landowners to seek cost-effective solutions, creating an ideal and ongoing market for our remediation technology.
“We look forward to the ongoing development of our relationship with Swedish Hydro and the continued expansion of our Water Technologies business in Europe.”
