Transpacific opens Riverland Resource Recovery Facility
Waste management company Transpacific has opened its Riverland Resource Recovery Facility. As noted by the managing director of Transpacific’s solid waste and recycling division Cleanaway, Nick Clark, this is “the first large-scale recycling facility in this district with the capacity to manage and process general waste, recyclables, commercial and industrial waste, and construction and demolition waste from the local area”.
Clark said the facility has a critical role to play in achieving the South Australian government’s Strategic Plan target of reducing the amount of waste going to landfill. It will process, recover and divert over 10,000 tonnes of recyclable material per year.
“The new-look facility includes a weighbridge, a 130 m2 administration and operations office, 1500 m2 hard shed, designated sorting area, as well as a designated storage and processing area,” described Clark.
“The modern design also incorporates a smooth-flowing, one-way traffic access road to allow for passenger vehicles with trailers to drive into the facility and dispose of waste materials and recyclables safely and easily.”
Clark noted that the facility has come about through collaboration with Renmark Paringa Council, District Council of Loxton Waikerie and Berri Barmera Council - the three local councils the facility will now support - as well as the South Australian government, local businesses and residents.
He said the facility is focused on recycling, and this is reflected through its pricing structure. “Residents can save money on their disposal fees through separating waste from recoverable materials within their loads and then disposing into designated bays.”
The opening of the facility, as well as the Cleanaway kerbside collections contracts, is expected to generate up to 15 new jobs for the local community, added Clark.
