Tabcorp Park races into recycling
Tabcorp Park has installed new waste and recycling bins just in time for the famous ‘Blue Chip Farms Breeders Crown’, where more than $1.5 million in prize money will be on offer on ‘Super Sunday’ 19 August 2012. The bins are part of the significant new developments for Tabcorp Park, a sporting and community hub with a range of entertainment facilities operating alongside a metropolitan harness racing track.
The bins are the result of a partnership between the Australian Food and Grocery Council’s Packaging Stewardship Forum (PSF) and Tabcorp Park. 50 new recycling bins have been installed throughout the park, carrying the national call to action to recycle, ‘Do The Right Thing, Use The Right Bin’, enabling the 500,000 visitors annually to Tabcorp Park to recycle.
The recycling bins are expected to divert more than 10 tonnes of beverage containers from landfill annually - equivalent to more than 400,000 small plastic drink bottles.
Martin Beekes, General Manager Tabcorp Park, said, “We wanted to help the environment through actively improving recycling at Tabcorp Park and we are pleased to be involved in the program.”
The General Manager of the PSF, Jenny Pickles, congratulated Tabcorp Park on its commitment to environmental sustainability.
“Through well-placed bin infrastructure and promotion of the Do the Right Thing, Use the Right Bin message, the new systems will make it just as easy to recycle away from home as it is at home.
“The new recycling systems are a great example of the types of proactive programs the beverage industry is undertaking to address the issue of packaging product stewardship,” said Pickles.
