Source Separation Systems encourages 'up-cycling'

In an effort to consider the transport and packaging of stock when it comes to recycling waste products, the team at Source Separation Systems has launched upcyclable packaging.

Upcycling is the process of converting old and discarded materials (waste) into something useful with a better purpose, or into something beautiful. This distinguished it from the recycling process by which a product is broken down so the base material can be re-used. Upcycling is common in developing countries, where new raw materials are often expensive, and developed countries have recently caught on to this trend.

Source Separation Systems’ upcyclable cartons, made of recycled cardboard, are designed to be turned into both a recycling and organics collection truck, with the aim to get kids playing, thinking and learning about sustainability. Kids can colour the trucks in as creatively as they like and, with the help of an adult, the trucks can be cut out and assembled.

The company is further encouraging upcycling by making available a free poster about composting - using the nutrients of appropriate household waste to help rejuvenate your garden. The poster, which is suitable for being printed out and stuck on the fridge, can be downloaded here.
