National Recycling Week 2012

Monday, 03 September, 2012

This National Recycling Week, to be held from 12-18 November, Planet Ark is encouraging all Australians to take recycling action at their home, school or workplace. A variety of events will be held to highlight the importance of recycling.

If you don’t want it, swap it! The Big Aussie Swap is a fun and free way to help the environment. Bring along quality items you no longer want, exchange each item for a token, then swap the token for items brought by others. Giving preloved goods a new life saves resources and reduces carbon emissions. Visit http://recyclingweek.planetark.org/bas/ to find details of your nearest Big Aussie Swap or organise your own with friends, your book club or sports group.

The Friday File Fling is an opportunity to give your unwanted files the flick. With only one in 10 sheets of office paper currently being recycled, Planet Ark is encouraging individuals to set aside time on Friday 16 November to declutter their filing cabinets, give used paper another life and raise office paper recycling rates. A guide to getting involved is available at http://recyclingweek.planetark.org/fff/.

Schools around the country are invited to join the Tetra Pak Schools Recycle Right Challenge, a new National Recycling Week initiative in 2012. The challenge offers a wide range of recycling-themed activities, lesson plans and events ideas that have been developed specifically for Australian schools. Each resource has been developed to enable learning by doing, and having fun. The challenge will run for a six-week period from Monday 8 October to Friday 16 November. A guide to getting started is available at http://schoolsrecycle.planetark.org/.
