Funding for desalination vessel

Water Standard Company has received up to US$250 million in equity funding to develop its solution to help ease the world’s growing water crisis.

The funding commitment will see the US-based company move towards delivery of what it claims is the world’s first ship-based desalination prototype and pursue business opportunities in key international markets including Australia.

The funding pledges will give the company the capacity to bring its proven processes to a worldwide market. Their commitment is believed to be the largest initial tranche of funding for a start-up in the water industry and is unprecedented in the desalination sector.

WSC chief executive officer Amanda Brock said the funding sent a strong message that WSC’s mobile, vessel-based technology and environmentally focused approach offered a powerful alternative solution to the global water challenge.

“We have the technology in both water and wastewater treatment, we are building an experienced team of leaders in the field and now we have the financial resources to penetrate the market and focus on growth,” Brock said.

The company will develop vessels with onboard seawater desalination capabilities and power generation. The potable desalinated water will then be transported to shore by undersea pipeline or a flexible hose system.
