SureFresh, Amcor’s latest fresh produce carton that won a Sustainability Award at the 2007 Australian Packaging Awards, combines good strength with product appearance at point-of-sale and is offered as an alternative to returnable plastic crates, expanded polystyrene (EPS) and some non-recyclable wax-coated trays.
The fresh produce carton eliminates black printing on a paper substrate from the process and the use of water and detergent for cleaning. It has a one-touch distribution capability, which cuts down on energy use and extra packaging material.
The laminated tray offers a high visual impact suitable for retail-ready presentation and is recyclable through standard paper and cardboard recycling streams.
A six-per-layer delivery and no return transport ensure it is sustainable packaging.
SureFresh uses a thin, glossy, waterproof, scuff and tear-resistant film/paper laminate to deliver a material option which also has low elasticity which assists in minimising base sag in trays.
Standard laminates are available in black and white. However, through the use of high-quality film printing processes, the company has launched Photo SureFresh enabling high-quality photographic artwork to be applied to the film and sealed within the laminate.
