UNAA Business and Human Rights Workshops

Monday, 18 March, 2013

The United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) is holding a series of Business and Human Rights Workshops.

The first of their kind in Australia, the workshops are a professional training program on the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles - the global standard of practice on business and human rights - endorsed by the Australian Government in June 2011. This global corporate responsibility standard is relevant to Australian businesses whether operating at home or abroad.

The workshops provide a practical learning forum for practitioners from all stakeholder groups on the international and domestic standards and tools available to help prevent and redress business-related human rights harm. They are facilitated by Vanessa Zimmerman, business and human rights expert and former legal advisor to the United Nations Special Representative on Business and Human Rights, and held in partnership with Allens.

They are an important training program for corporate responsibility and sustainability managers, human resources, people and community managers, investors, governance, risk and compliance managers, and corporate lawyers. They cover the tools needed to:

  • communicate the business case for human rights;
  • develop and implement a corporate human rights policy;
  • establish a human rights due diligence process;
  • address human rights grievances, disputes and complaints;
  • manage human rights challenges in business relationships, eg, with business partners, suppliers, security providers, subcontractors and clients.

The series of six workshops will be held in Melbourne from 26 March to 6 August. Discounts apply if you register for all six workshops before 5 pm on 22 March.
