Sydney Water wins major infrastructure award

Sydney Water’s Priority Sewerage Program (PSP) has won an Alliancing Association of Australasia (AAA) Excellence Award.

Sydney Water Managing Director Kerry Schott said the PSP was judged by the national alliancing industry as the best Long Term Alliance in Australia.

“The award recognises the hard work the Alliance has done over the past eight years in completing 10 schemes, worth over $500 million, providing sewerage services to village communities on the edges of Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains,” Dr Schott said.

“Sydney Water congratulates our partners, John Holland, UGL, Manidis Roberts and MWH, and our own staff for their teamwork, knowledge sharing and shared commitment to servicing Sydney Water’s customers.

The NSW Government’s PSP provides improved sewerage services to urban villages in environmentally sensitive areas. These areas are generally near drinking water catchments, rivers, beaches or national parks.

Initially announced in 1997 by the NSW Government, the PSP nominated 16 villages with high environmental sensitivity in Sydney Water’s area of operations. To date, over 5400 properties have been connected to the sewerage system.

In 2001, the PSP was extended by the NSW Government. This extension means that by late 2012 another seven villages will be sewered.

In addition, Sydney Water will deliver the PSP to Austral, West Hoxton, Wilton, Menangle and Menangle Park 24 months after the servicing of significant adjoining developments.

AAA represents organisations and professionals involved in project, service and strategic alliancing in Australia and New Zealand.
