The ADFM (acoustic Doppler flowmeter) Velocity Profiler can measure flow rates in harsh environments and under difficult hydraulic conditions. The ADFM flowmeters use Pulse Doppler to measure true velocity profiles - not an estimated average velocity as with common Continuous Wave Doppler flowmeters.

The unit transmits short acoustic pulses along multiple narrow beams, at different depths or 'bins', thereby providing a true velocity profile including direction. An ultrasonic depth sensor (built into the sensor), combined with the velocity profile, provides accuracy even under very low, zero or reverse flow conditions.

The unit does not require a site calibration. Backwater, surcharging, variable flow conditions, varying roughness coefficients, or effects from physical influences such as pipe bends or intercepting flows do not affect the accuracy of flow measurements.
