Organic solution helps council
Recycled material for sporting fields
Camden Soil Mix (CSM) has joined with Liverpool City Council to help close the loop on recycling using an organic enriched top-dressing mix to repair sporting fields suffering wear and tear from the winter football codes.
CSM, a WSN Environmental Solutions business, will provide the council with nearly 7000 tonnes of 80/20 top-dressing mix, which contains 80% recycled sand and 20% soil with added screened recycled organics and manure.
CSM will mix the material and spread it on more than 20 sporting complexes in the Liverpool local government area, many of which contain multiple playing fields.
The top-dressing is made up almost entirely of recycled materials. The sand in the top-dressing is virgin excavated natural material (VENM) sourced from building and construction sites and the fully composted organic component originated from lawn clippings, tree branches and garden plants.
The sand used in the top-dressing mix allows water to drain freely, the soil is used for stability, while the organic component provides nutrients and added water-holding capacity to help regenerate and maintain the sports field grasses.
The semi-composted manure component of the mix helps reduce the need for expensive chemical fertilisers.
The soil mix products are biosolids free. This means they are safe for human handling and can be applied in public spaces such as sporting fields or lawn areas.
