Decant system

Vertical weirs, as such, are not new. But, Watergates has used its gate experience to design a decant system that is long lasting and low maintenance, all based on a vertical weir arrangement.

In most applications, marine-grade aluminium will provide good service. Coupled with a UHMW polyethylene seal, which is a commonly used wear liner in mining due to its high wear resistance, long life is assured.

Where the weir length is greater than about 7 m, the mechanisms are split into two to provide up to 15 m total weir length. They are driven by a common actuator. The actuator can be programmed to give the raising and lowering speeds required by the process designer.

Care must be taken in the thread arrangement and loadings to ensure long drive nut life. This is taken into account with the design parameters selected and the special workshop practices. There are no induced forces due to moments as there are with tilting designs.

Perhaps the greatest technological advantage is the method used to ensure a good seal using a long-lasting seal material.
