Xylem’s first sustainability report issued

Tuesday, 20 November, 2012

Xylem has launched its first ever sustainability report, ‘A Drop is Everything’, which outlines the company’s sustainability focus areas, best practices from individual businesses and sites, and how it plans to measure its efforts going forward.

The report contains the following information:

  • How Xylem is addressing the ‘big five’ global water issues with its Sustainable Water Infrastructure initiative.
  • The goals the company has set as it works to reduce water and energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The company’s expanding commitment to Xylem Watermark.
  • How Xylem has committed to use more sustainability measurements to assess and select its supplier partners.
  • Why Xylem was selected to be on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes in its first year as an independent company.

Earlier this year, a Sustainability Steering Committee was formed with employees from all geographies, businesses and functions to guide Xylem’s sustainability efforts and ensure momentum is maintained. The work and initiatives described in the report demonstrate that the efforts of the committee are having an impact.

Xylem has recently been chosen as one of the finalists for the 13th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards by the Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC), a non-profit affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce. This recognition honours businesses for their societal innovations and for creating a sustained positive impact on people, communities and the environment.

Xylem was chosen as a ‘Best International Ambassador’ finalist, with the company’s Disaster Risk Reduction Water Initiative said to help produce “real, positive change for vulnerable communities around the world”. The awards will be presented on 6 December in Washington, DC.
