Sustainable design and development acknowledged

Hyder Consulting and The New Rouse Hill have won top spots in the sustainability category at the 2008 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Award for Excellence Gala Dinner.

UDIA judges said Hyder’s stormwater management, water-sensitive design development and water-quality modelling are at the cutting edge. The company developed a system of infrastructure, tailored to the needs of the community, which enabled developers to incorporate groundbreaking sustainability initiatives.

The company worked as lead consultant for civil and structural engineering and service coordination for sewer and water. Its sustainable design measures included the extensive re-use of materials on site, careful construction management, particularly with the bulk earthworks, and careful consideration to areas of Aboriginal cultural significance.

With a strong commitment to ecologically sustainable development, the developers of The New Rouse Hill, in close collaboration with their consultants, have set a new standard in social, environmental and economic sustainability.

The New Rouse Hill is a joint venture between Lend Lease and The GPT Group in partnership with Landcom and The NSW Department of Planning.
