Startups receive $100K grant to tackle climate change
NRMA Insurance has announced the inaugural recipients of Help Fund: a multimillion-dollar initiative that aims to support climate resilience in Australia.
Up to $100,000 each was awarded to five local climate-smart innovations that are helping to reduce risk, strengthen climate resilience and support adaptation in the face of a changing climate.
The five recipients of Help Fund include:
- DNA Energy: keeping the lights and cooling on in extreme heat
- FloodMapp AUS: real-time operational flood forecasting
- GeoNadir: advanced drone mapping analysis
- Rainstick: electric seed treatment for climate-resilient crops
- VALAI (Home Efficiency Australia): data-driven household water efficiency
“In a warming climate, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense across the country. As a nation we must collaborate and innovate to build climate resilience and protect communities,” said NRMA Insurance CEO Julie Batch.
“Emerging technology is proving to be a powerful tool in this effort. Australia is home to world-class talent at the forefront of climate innovation, and through our Help Fund, we’re proud to support these five inspiring change makers as they work to safeguard our future.”
Help Fund was developed by NRMA Insurance in partnership with Climate Salad to commemorate 100 years of helping Aussies prepare for and face extreme weather events.
