Nominations for Australia’s ‘greenest’ teacher now open

Friday, 11 February, 2011

Sanyo has announced its sponsorship of Clean Up Australia’s 2011 Green Teacher Award - an award which recognises teachers who have positively influenced students by carrying out environmental projects within their school community.

To be eligible to receive the Green Teacher Award, nominees must be participating in the 2011 Schools Clean Up day and demonstrate environmental excellence through the implementation or maintenance of a program or activity that contributes to the wide understanding of environmental issues.

Prizes will be awarded to the Greenest Teacher from each state and territory, in addition to a national winner. The national winner will receive Sanyo's PDG-DWL2500 ultrashort-throw projector worth $2999.

Last year’s national winner, Wayne Holloway of Ashby Primary School in Victoria, won the award through his innovative ‘Ashby re-use a shoe’ project, which encouraged students to think beyond typical recycling programs. 100 shoes were collected and all parts of the shoes were used to create sporting surfaces.

Nominations for the 2011 Green Teacher Award close 25 March and winners will be announced on 26 April. For more information, visit www.cleaupaustraliaday.org.au.
