Minister congratulates Sydney Water for winning international award

Wednesday, 05 May, 2010

The NSW Minister for Water, Phil Costa, has congratulated Sydney Water for winning the 2010 Public Water Agency of the Year Award at the Global Water Intelligence Conference in Paris.

Minister Costa said the prestigious award recognises the public sector organisation that has made the greatest contribution to meeting the challenges of water supply during 2009.

“This award recognises that NSW is leading the way in water management,” Minister Costa said.

“Sydney Water was recognised for the success of its water efficiency and water recycling projects and for the delivery of the desalination project on time and under budget.

“The NSW government’s Metropolitan Water Plan recognises the four key components to securing our water supply - dams, desalination, recycling and water efficiency.

“By 2015, up to 12% of Sydney’s water needs will be met by recycling and improved water efficiency will save 24% of greater Sydney’s water needs.

“In addition, Sydney’s desalination plant can supply up to 15% of our water needs.

“Sydney Water was nominated by its international peers and representatives of water agencies and companies across the world voted for the winner.”
