Four new GBCA fellowships for industry leaders

Friday, 11 February, 2011

Four green building fellowships have been awarded by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) to recognise and reward the significant contributions of four industry leaders to Australia’s sustainable property and construction industry.

Grocon’s Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Grollo, and the Chief Executive of the Property Council of Australia, Peter Verwer, have both been appointed Life Fellows of the GBCA. Matthew Quinn, Stockland’s Managing Director, and Daryl Browning, Chief Executive Officer of ISPT, have been awarded Fellowships. According to GBCA Chair Tony Arnel, Fellowship awards are granted to individuals who have championed the green building message and committed their time to the GBCA. A Life Fellowship award distinguishes any individual who has made a notable and significant contribution to the GBCA. Award recipients are determined by the Board Fellowship Sub-Committee.

“Both Peter Verwer and Daniel Grollo have been on the Board of Directors since the GBCA’s inception in 2002,” Arnel says.

“Daniel is a long-time supporter of Green Star, and Grocon has being involved with a number of Green Star buildings, such as the Pixel Building in Melbourne, which recently gained the highest Green Star score of all time, and 1 Bligh Street in Sydney. Daniel also chairs the GBCA’s International Committee,” Arnel says.

“Peter has chaired the GBCA’s Technical Assurance Committee and continues to collaborate closely with the council on our joint flagship conference, Green Cities, which is held each year in conjunction with the Property Council of Australia (PCA),” Arnel continues.

The GBCA and PCA also work together with other industry groups on the annual Built Environment Meets Parliament (BEMP) conference and Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) activities.

The Fellowships awarded to Matthew Quinn and Daryl Browning are acknowledgement of their leadership within in the industry, through supporting the growth of the GBCA and uptake of Green Star, says Chief Executive Romilly Madew.

“Matthew and Daryl’s commitment and support have helped further Australia’s green building agenda.

“During Matthew’s time at the helm, Stockland has supported the development of a number of Green Star rating tools, including the industrial and residential tools, and is a sponsor of the Green Star Communities project. Stockland is the owner of more than a dozen Green Star-certified or registered projects, including its own Green Star-rated headquarters, Stockhome,” Madew says.

“Under Daryl Browning’s leadership, ISPT has become one of Australia’s three top organisations for Green Star-certified and -registered projects. Green Star landmarks such Green Square Tower North in Brisbane would not exist were it not for ISPT’s green leadership. ISPT has also supported a range of GBCA tools, programs and committees,” Madew adds.

The details of all Fellows and Life Fellows are listed on the GBCA website.
