Conference focuses on sustainability in building and design
Developments in sustainable design will be the focus of RMIT University’s 6th annual Green Building & Design Conference, being held in Sydney 30 April – 1 May.
Organised by the Centre for Design at RMIT, the conference brings together architects and other designers, policy makers, consultants, building owners and the building industry.
Dr Usha Iyer-Raniga, sustainable built environments manager at the Centre of Design, said this year’s theme 'Solutions through Integrated Design' stressed the importance of all parties working together from the beginning of a project through to the end, to achieve the best possible result in sustainability for all stakeholders.
“More than ever, there is a need to mediate between the interests of the client, tenants, authorities, professional disciplines and the contractor,” Iyer-Raniga said.
“All parties need to keep in mind the future development of policies and regulations, the change in building technology and the necessary shift in the use of resources.
“We all need to think 10 to 25 years ahead, to create a built environment that will stand the test of time, not be quickly outdated and in need of extensive retrofitting.”
The event, being held at L’Aqua on Cockle Bay Wharf, Darling Park, is sponsored by the Australian Government Department of the Environment.
