Collaboration to penetrate high-end packaging market

Tuesday, 10 November, 2009

Plantic, a company engaged in the development and commercialisation of biodegradable plastics from naturally occurring high amylose starch, has announced a formal collaboration with German packaging supplier Kesko. This follows the commissioning and opening of Plantic’s manufacturing facility in Jena, which became fully operational in February 2009.

A key component of Plantic’s marketing strategy has been to convince producers of higher value, luxury products of the importance of introducing biodegradability into their packaging. Plantic biodegradable packaging uses less than 50% of the energy and up to 70% less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional plastic.

Plantic's German subsidiary, Plantic Technologies (Germany), will collaborate with Kesko, a supplier of a range of packaging products to the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries; and Kesko will play an active role in promoting the functional and environmental qualities of Plantic’s sheet and resin material. Plantic will supply biodegradable thermoformed sheet for BIOBlister and all BIO oriented packaging to Kesko.

Plantic's Australian-based company has an international network of major corporate customers, distributors and research and development partners.
