Solar grid feed inverter

Friday, 23 November, 2007 | Supplied by: Solar Energy Australia

The Orion is a true sine wave, non-isolated DC-AC inverter designed for solar grid-feeding applications.

Being compact, lightweight and virtually silent, the unit fits into small locations. For example, a typical installation would be on an internal garage wall.

The unit operates from a photovoltaic (PV)/solar array DC power source and generates a sine wave current output for direct connection to the 240 VAC 50 Hz LV power grid.

The unit employs an MPPT (maximum power point tracker) for efficient use of the PV power system and is supplied with a built-in PV earth leakage detector. The unit can feed in excess of 2 kW to the grid when supplied with a suitable solar array, typically 20 to 25 m2.

A user-friendly backlit LCD allows full monitoring of instantaneous power, voltage and frequency as well as inverter status. The inverter is programmed and controlled using a single function button, the LCD and two status LEDs.

The unit is also provided with a standard RS232 socket for connection to a PC for data acquisition. There are several optional components for communications via RS485 and SNMP.

The unit is compliant with: AS/NZS 4777 'Grid connection of energy system via inverter', AS/NZS 3100:2002 'Approval and test specifications - General requirements for electrical equipment' and is C-tick approved.
