RESA VoltLogic four-quadrant power device

Tuesday, 01 October, 2013 | Supplied by: Renewable Energy Solutions Australia Holdings Ltd

Renewable Energy Solutions Australia (RESA) is releasing VoltLogic - a four-quadrant device that can import, export and store real and reactive power. The device is aimed at electricity utilities and manufacturers of renewable energy products.

The all-in-one solution delivers multiple functionalities including grid stabilisation, power factor correction, voltage regulation, peak demand shifting, UPS, inverter and phase balancing. Existing products require network rebuilding and/or multiple devices to deliver only some of these functions, whereas VoltLogic efficiently and economically delivers all functionality within a single solution to reduce infrastructure expenditure.

Currently, fluctuations in the supply of renewable energy can mean voltage spikes, leading to wear and tear on equipment, shorter equipment life spans and increased costs. The product can manage these spikes and operate as an inverter from the renewable energy source/s. In areas where there are limitations on exported power such as in remote and rural areas, it can limit power exported to the grid.

The device provides a myriad of hybrid solutions, with the ability to combine electrical power from various renewable and/or non-renewable energy sources. Even in hybrid systems there is still only one point of attachment to the grid, simplifying installation.

The product is suitable for utilities wanting to extend the life of ageing assets, as voltage can be optimised without investment in new infrastructure. It is available in single- and three-phase options and, with modular architecture, can be easily expanded as system requirements grow.
