The HP Color LaserJet CM6040 Multifunction Printer (MFP) is designed to be environmentally friendly during its life cycle.

The printer meets Energy Star guidelines for energy efficiency; its toner cartridge uses 45% less packaging material (by weight) than previous designs; multi-chamber air bag in the cartridges means 30% more cartridges can be shipped in one pallet (1500 more cartridges in each ocean container); HP Web Jetadmin and the HP Universal Print Driver enable duplex printing for the individual printer or an entire fleet, saving paper; HP Web Jetadmin also allows the printer to be remotely scheduled for sleep and wake-up modes, or automatically turn off devices on nights and weekends for savings of up to 66% in energy costs.

HP launched its Design for Environment (DfE) program in 1992. DfE aims to reduce environmental impact by addressing every stage of the life cycle of an HP product — from the design, manufacture, distribution and usage to re-use and recycling. In Australia, HP currently has two programs specifically for business around recycling which do not cost the user anything.

The Cartridges 4 PlanetArk program allows businesses and consumers across Australia to return their printer cartridges to environmentally sound recycling and offers a zero waste to landfill guarantee, which means that none of the cartridge materials end up in landfill but everything from the plastics, aluminium, steel and toner powder is recycled. What’s more, the program is free and convenient to use. More information is available at: http://www.hp.com.au/recycle/supplies/join.asp.

The HP LaserJet Carbon Offset Program offers a bonus carbon offset on all HP LaserJet printers in Australia and New Zealand to help reduce our environmental footprint at no cost to the end user. More information is available at: www.hp.com.au/co2.
