Evoqua water filtration technology to combat California drought

Evoqua Water Technologies has been awarded a contract to supply its microfiltration packaged system as part of the second-phase expansion of the Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility in San Pedro, Los Angeles.

The water treatment facility purifies tertiary effluent to produce purified water for indirect potable re-use applications, which is especially important in the face of the ongoing California-wide drought. The Terminal Island expansion is expected to add over 30 million litres per day of filtrate capacity, as pretreatment to the reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation process step.

Evoqua will supply the facility with its Memcor CP System, utilising next-generation hollow fibre membrane technology which allows operators more flexibility and simplified cleaning procedures. This will save the Bureau of Sanitation capital on cleaning material costs every year.

“We have partnered with the City of Los Angeles for decades and we are honoured to have been selected to be a part of this vital expansion,” said Evoqua CEO Ron Keating. “We look forward to continuing our work with the City of Los Angeles to help address water needs in the region.”
