Sewer technology

Becker products are used in the construction of vacuum sewer collection systems. They can be used as an alternative to gravity systems as they do not rely on the natural gradient for the transportation of sewerage. They offer an odour-free environment, with the ability to transport effluent uphill, and use less water for flushing.

Sewerage is delivered via a pumping station to sewerage collection tanks. The station would normally house two vacuum pumps which create a vacuum in the sewer lines.

To take this one step further, the greywater can be separated from the sewerage at the point of source and this can be recycled. Vacuum trucks, equipped with reversible rotary vane pumps for suction or delivery, collect the sewerage from the collection tanks.

The application is quite versatile and can be used in small townships, new estate developments, industrial and factory areas, shopping centres and marinas.

Becker uses either: KVT 3 series vacuum pumps which are 100% oil-free and protected from internal corrosion due to high humidity air; or U4 series oil-lubricated vacuum pumps with lower noise level and oil bath heating to combat the build-up of condensation.

Depending on the application and the unit required, the vacuum pumps can achieve a flow of up to 630 m3/h and a vacuum level of 0.5 mbar.
