Glass recycling process

The Glass AGG system from Glass Aggregate Systems is capable of processing plate and laminated window glass, and glass beverage and food containers.

The process converts the waste glass into a marketable glass aggregate fine of various sizes depending on its end use. The fines can be used for sand blasting, road base aggregate, septic tank drains, landscaping, concrete additives, hydroponics, etc.

The system is suitable for remote communities where traditional recycling methods are unsuitable due to inefficiencies associated with transport and sorting.

The Glass AGG systems consist of a three-stage process: the Popper unit, where the glass is broken down and where the laminate is sectioned; the Shearing unit, where the material is sheared down to the required thickness (this is not used for window recycling); and the Sizing unit, where the laminate is separated from the glass; and for glass beverage and food containers the glass is reduced to desired size — as fine as powder, if required.

A selection of models is available, including: H-100 V which is a small mobile unit capable of breaking down approximately 150-200 kg/h of glass beverage and food containers into fine sand-like aggregate.

Labels and caps are separated into a vacuum device; H-100 VT which consists of an in-feed chute and conveyor, with a trommel integrated into the system, and is capable of processing approximately 1 t/h; H200 which consists of an in-and-out feed conveyor, integrated trommel and is capable of processing approximately 2 t/h; GM 1 and GM 2 which are large-scale industrial systems capable of processing approximately 3-10 and 10-20 t/h respectively. The systems comprise a complete conveyor system, processing unit and trommels; and GLS 400 which processes laminated windows and windscreens and normal plate glass up to 10 t/h.

To complement the system it is possible to fit a final size separating screen that allows for a more detailed separation of the various glass particles.
