Recycling box makes e-waste disposal easy

Thursday, 23 October, 2014

Storage King, MobileMuster and ECOACTIV have developed the E-Waste Recycling Box - a service which allows households, businesses and schools to recycle old electronics easily and responsibly.

Consumer research from not-for-profit recycler MobileMuster found that one of the key times consumers consider tackling the disposal of their e-waste is when they are moving home or cleaning up and decluttering. But as noted by MobileMuster Recycling Manager Rose Read, “We also know that in some locations, disposing of e-waste can mean multiple trips to different waste collection points or waiting possibly up to 12 months for a local collection day.

“So when Storage King approached MobileMuster to see how we could help their customers do the right thing with their old mobiles and electronics, we jumped at the chance of establishing a recycling option for them.”

The E-Waste Recycling Box allows consumers to easily recycle their electronics, simply by purchasing a box for the price of a cup of coffee. Storage King Local Marketing Coordinator Chat Bandaranayake said the initiative “means consumers can head to one location and buy one box to manage their e-waste in one trip”.

According to Read, over 90% of the materials in the electronics collected will be used to make new products. She added that any old data left on the devices will be destroyed in the recycling process.

The box is currently available at selected locations in NSW and will eventually roll out nationally. For more information, visit http://ecoactiv.com.au/ewastebox.
