TAFE rainwater training

Davey Water Products is aiding plumbers and apprentices in training through the supply of its RainBank systems to almost 60 TAFE College's and similar training centres throughout Australia.

For instance, at the Holmesglen TAFE College in Melbourne, which is responsible for training up to 450 plumbing trade apprentices each year, Davey has supplied a number of water transfer pumps and systems including two Davey pump and RainBank systems for practical demonstration of a typical toilet flushing and cold water supply to the laundry installation.

"Holmesglen was one of the first TAFE institutions to introduce modern rainwater harvesting practices for metropolitan applications into its plumbing apprenticeship curriculum," Davey's market manager, Max Ekins said.

"A significant part of the training program is the provision of hands-on practical experience to ensure that the future generations of skilled tradespeople who are progressing through their courses will have a practical and theoretical experience in the application of domestic rainwater harvesting systems."

The company is also supporting the water conservation initiatives and ongoing education programs conducted through the national and state water conservation programs including Green Plumbers, Eco Plumbers in South Australia, and Enviroplumber in New South Wales.

Davey has also recently completed the "Pat Your Plumber on the Back' promotion with the Plumbing Industry Commission.

"With all Australian states offering householders and industries concessions and incentives for the installation of rainwater tanks and harvesting systems, Australia's plumbing trades are presented with both a business opportunity and the chance to conserve valuable water resources in an increasingly dry environment," Ekins said.

Training organisations and institutions including practical applications of metropolitan rainwater harvesting systems in their course curriculum are invited to contact Davey on 1300 367 866 for information on the training materials and the product samples available.
