Greenhouse calculator for cotton growers

A greenhouse gas calculator has been produced for Australian cotton growers. The calculator will allow growers to gain an overall indication of the CO2 contribution from nitrogen gases and fossil fuel use on farms.

An online version will also be developed and refined to enable individual growers to calculate an approximate estimate of their greenhouse footprint on their farms by comparing the relative contributions from fuel, soils and nitrogen.

At present there is little information or tools available that allows on farm energy use to be effectively audited and more efficiently managed.

This provides an opportunity for collaborative programs involving other industries and government to develop the capacity for individual growers to audit energy use across all operations. They can then apply tools to improve efficiency.
