Workplace recyclers recognised by MobileMuster
Not-for-profit recycling program MobileMuster has announced the winners of the inaugural Workplace Recycling Awards. The awards acknowledge the support received from workplaces in helping the mobile phone industry meet its promise of keeping old mobiles out of landfill.
According to MobileMuster Recycling Manager Rose Read, e-waste is growing three times faster than any other waste issue. MobileMuster aims to combat this crisis by offering a safe, secure and ethical service for those who wish to dispose of their unwanted mobile phones. It is the only government-accredited mobile phone recycling program in Australia.
MobileMuster’s Workplace Recycling Awards ceremony, held yesterday at the Australian Waste and Recycling Expo in Melbourne, recognised nine workplaces from across Australia — including representatives from the corporate, government, education and not-for-profit sectors. The winning workplaces are as follows:
- National Excellence Award: ISPT/Knight Frank Australia
- National Top Collector (kg): Department of Defence
- Australian Capital Territory Top Collector: Department of Defence
- New South Wales Top Collector (kg): Global Care Dubbo
- Northern Territory Top Collector (kg): Police, Fire and Emergency Services
- Queensland Top Collector (kg): Department of Transport and Main Roads
- Western Australia Top Collector (kg): Transperth
- South Australia Top Collector (kg): South Australia Police Ottoway
- Tasmania Top Collector (kg): University of Tasmania
- Victoria Top Collector (kg): UBT
“In the 12 months to June 30, workplaces diverted over 4945 kg of mobiles, batteries, chargers and accessories from landfill,” said Read.
“Having recycling programs in the workplace is not only good for the environment but it is also good for staff morale, with research showing that many Australians would like to recycle their old mobiles in the workplace.”
