Target 100 wins Origin Gold Banksia Award
Energy provider Origin, major sponsor of the Banksia Environmental Foundation’s Gold Banksia Award, has announced the 2012 Gold Award winner as Meat & Livestock Australia’s Target 100 initiative.
Target 100 was selected from the winners of the nine Banksia Award categories - Small to Medium Businesses, Large Organisations, Water, Plate Sustainability, Clean Technology, Indigenous, Built Environment, Land and Biodiversity, and the Education Award, which Target 100 took home. Target 100 is an initiative by Australian cattle and sheep farmers and broader industry to deliver sustainable cattle and sheep farming in Australia by 2020.
Target 100 has outlined 100 research, development and extension initiatives to be funded through industry bodies to continually improve sustainability. Employing the use of traditional and modern media channels, the campaign aims to educate farmers about sustainable practices, as well as utilising case studies as a platform for discussion.
Origin has been a long-standing partner of the Banksia Awards, which are an opportunity to highlight the achievements of Australians in the area of sustainability and innovation.
