Sustainability education guidebook released

Tuesday, 02 October, 2012

A guidebook on school and community learning partnerships for sustainability, Conversations on School - Community Learning Partnerships for Sustainability (A Guidebook), was launched in Melbourne this morning.

The guidebook has been written by RMIT University researchers Dr Leone Wheeler, Dr Roberto Guevara, Professor Annette Gough and Professor John Fien and former RMIT staff member, Dr Jodi-Anne Smith. It was launched by the authors at the 17th Biennial National Conference of the Australian Association for Environmental Education.

The publication is the result of collaboration with schools and community members across Victoria, and has been produced to support schools and communities in establishing, reinforcing and celebrating learning partnerships for sustainability.

CEO of Sustainability Victoria Stan Krpan, in recommending the guidebook to all who work in the field of education for sustainability, said school and community learning partnerships had been part of school life for decades.

“The school stories in the guidebook demonstrate diversity, richness and the rewards of active partnerships from the perspectives of school staff, students and community members who are all involved in the partnership projects,” he said.

“This guidebook is an inspiration of what can be achieved and a great resource that will enable people to start the journey, continue the journey and celebrate the journey of effective school community learning partnerships for sustainability.”

Electronic copies of the guidebook are available for download at www.rmit.edu.au/northernpartnerships/research/school-community-partnerships/guidebook.
