Spotless announced as finalist in 2012 Banksia Environmental Foundation annual awards
Catering, cleaning and facilities manager Spotless has been named as a finalist in the prestigious 2012 Banksia Environmental Foundation awards in the category of ‘Leading in Sustainability - Setting the Standard in Large Organisations’.
The company has been recognised for its ‘Events Without Waste’ initiative, which it set up in order to combat the large amount of waste generated from major sporting, leisure and community events. The initiative takes a waste life cycle approach to major events and aims to achieve a 100% diversion of waste from landfill during such events. So far, it has achieved the following results:
- 97% waste diversion for the 2011 President’s Cup in Melbourne
- 91% waste diversion for the 2012 Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix
By integrating procurement, catering, cleaning and waste management services, Spotless is able to take control of the waste life cycle to ensure sourcing of eco-friendly products and packaging and the use of on-site composting which, in the case of the President’s Cup, reduced the volume of organic waste by 85 to 90% and provided a rich fertiliser for the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
