Public consultation on carbon tax repeal bills
The Australian Government yesterday released, for public consideration, exposure drafts of the legislation to repeal the carbon tax.
The repeal bills will remove the carbon tax, ending the tax on fuels used in shipping, rail and air transport and on synthetic greenhouse gases. The Climate Change Authority will also be abolished.
When the carbon tax is gone, the household assistance will remain to help families with the cost of living. Carbon tax industry assistance, including the Jobs and Competitiveness Program, will continue until 30 June 2014 to assist affected businesses.
Businesses now have an opportunity to comment on the specific details of the repeal process. Such details, and submission guidelines, can be found here.
Interested parties are invited to provide their submissions to repeal-submissions@environment.gov.au. Submissions close by 5 pm AEDT 4 November.
The Australian Government will consult separately on the design of the Emissions Reduction Fund and the Direct Action Plan in October 2013.
