Parsons Brinckerhoff releases sustainability report
This week Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) released 'Sustainability 2008: Creating a lasting legacy' — the infrastructure consultancy’s first sustainability report.
PB Director of Sustainability Darren Bilsborough explained this is the organisation's first report for its Australian and New Zealand operations.
“Our ambition was to collect and benchmark data for our performance as a consultancy but also to reflect on what sustainability means to PB’s employees," he said.
“As consultants we work to mitigate the social and environmental impacts of the projects and services we provide. For example, whilst we realise zero emission output is not possible, we audit our emissions to work out our carbon liability," Bilsborough said.
“Over the past year PB’s electricity use, which accounts for over 60% of carbon emissions, was our highest emissions input. Now we are using this data to continue our work to reduce these emissions – and to share with our employees how we are tracking against this goal,” he said.
PB’s sustainability report is for the company’s operations during the financial year November 2007 to October 2008.
The company used Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability guidelines and PB’s five corporate values to compile the report.
