New Chair for the WSAA Board
Sue Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of the Water Corporation of Western Australia, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) Board.
Murphy takes over from the outgoing Chair, Kevin Young, Managing Director of Sydney Water, who has just completed two years in the position.
Murphy said she was delighted to be appointed. “Urban water utilities have faced enormous challenges in recent years. Now is the time to listen to our customers so we can provide water security and value for the future. WSSA is the perfect organisation to do just that. I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that Kevin Young brought to the role,” she said.
The role of Deputy Chair will be taken by Jon Black, Chief Executive Officer of Unitywater in Queensland.
Adam Lovell, WSAA Executive Director says “I am excited to have the opportunity to work closely with Sue and Jon who both bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to their new roles. WSAA will be a key player in the urban water industry future and I believe Sue and Jon will provide strong leadership to achieve our focus on customers and value for money.”
Sue Murphy graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of Western Australia; she was Deputy Chairperson of the Rottnest Island Authority and Telstra Business Woman of the Year in 2000. Jon Black was previously CEO of the South East Queensland water distribution entity and held high-ranking positions in the Australian Army.
