Is your business carbon ready?

Tuesday, 13 July, 2010

Marking a new benchmark in industry training, Australia’s first Diploma of Carbon Management is now being offered at Swinburne University of Technology’s Wantirna campus.

Developed and delivered by the university's National Centre for Sustainability (NCS), the 12-month, part-time course builds on the nationally recognised three-day carbon accounting course introduced at Swinburne in 2008.

It is designed for business owners, consultants and individuals in the workforce who wish to gain a comprehensive understanding of the risks and opportunities of carbon management.

Students of sustainability, people with roles in industry required to upskill in climate change and carbon abatement, and people in policy positions within government departments will also benefit from this course.

Participants will graduate with the capacity to build robust approaches to carbon management and the skills and knowledge to meet current and future industry requirements.

“Becoming ‘carbon ready’ doesn’t just mean risk management in the form of planning for a new regulatory framework,” said Scott McKenry, NCS team leader. “There will also be many new opportunities available for innovative businesses wanting to stake a claim in the green economy.

“Research shows that Australian business can make many emissions reductions which are also cashflow positive. For example, in areas such as commercial air handling and lighting, business can save up to $150 per tonne of emissions saved.

“Taking a proactive approach to carbon allows businesses to explore competitive advantages, enhance reputation and manage cost, ultimately improving their bottom line.”
