Funding for water conservation projects announced
The Minister for Water, Tim Holding, has announced $5 million in funding for 21 projects throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria. Smart Water Fund spokesperson Shaun Cox said a key objective of the Fund is to share the knowledge created by these innovative projects throughout their respective industries in order to encourage others to adopt similar initiatives.
“The Smart Water Fund aims to empower others with the knowledge to implement innovative new ways to save water," Holding said.
“The Fund is very excited at the strong research and development initiatives coming through in Round 6 projects.
“The Smart Water Fund is making a significant contribution to Victoria’s collective water conservation knowledge and this is demonstrated by the level of sophistication of the successful projects and their potential for water saving.
“With drought and lower rainfall expected to continue with climate change, we are reminded of the importance of finding new ways to use water more sustainably."
The Smart Water Fund provides funding for innovative water conservation, water recycling and biosolids management initiatives to individuals, community groups, businesses and research bodies in metropolitan and regional urban Victoria. Projects previously funded by the Smart Water Fund have created a wealth of knowledge that can be leveraged by industry and the community.
Since its inception in 2002, the Fund has invested approximately $30 million in over 170 projects.
