Environmental award for energy-efficient compressor

Friday, 26 July, 2013

Industrial group Atlas Copco has presented its Environmental Award for 2012 to the team that developed the company’s GA VSD+ compressor, launched in April this year.

The compressor is said to cut energy consumption by roughly half compared to traditional devices. One of its innovations is the integration of the interior oil-cooled permanent magnet motor with the compressor element, creating a smaller, lighter, quieter and more efficient machine.

The award was won by Bert Derom, Product Manager in Belgium, and his project team at the Industrial Air division in Compressor Technique in Antwerp. It includes €5800 for use towards an environmental initiative or project.

“Congratulations to the team. This compressor is a huge leap forward in innovation and will benefit both our customers and the environment,” said Andrew Walker, Chair of the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Council and President of the Atlas Copco Compressor Technique Service division. “This helps cement Atlas Copco’s leading position as the company with the most innovative products, both when it comes to energy efficiency and productivity.”
