Conference on climate-resilient primary industries

Thursday, 16 July, 2015

The Climate Change Research Strategy for Primary Industries (CCRSPI) — a collaboration between organisations that invest in climate change research for primary industries — will be holding its flagship conference from 18–19 November at Doltone House, Darling Island Wharf, Sydney.

The conference is the collaboration’s latest effort in its goal to help Australia’s primary industries tackle the challenges of climate in the future. Titled ‘Primary Industries — Striving for Climate Resilience’, the event will draw together Australia’s brightest minds to discuss current and prospective research that will help make primary industries more climate-resilient.

“As part of the conference, business leaders will be asked about the climate drivers that impact their business, what they are doing to manage them and what they think might happen in the future,” said Craig Burns, the managing director of the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC).

“The conference will give delegates an understanding of the breadth of investment aimed at addressing productivity challenges. It will also give an overview of activities to reduce the impacts of climate and will describe the steps being taken to build increasingly resilient primary industries.

“In addition, the conference will provide insights into how forecasts are developing and how forecasting tools are being used to manage risk within different sectors of primary industries.”

The event will attract climate scientists, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders, but anyone with an interest or investment in climate research is invited to attend. Registrations are now open online at www.ccrspi2015conference.com.
