Clean Energy Regulator begins operations
Australia has moved one step closer to a clean energy future since the Clean Energy Regulator commenced operations on 2 April.
The statutory authority will administer new and existing regulatory schemes, including the carbon pricing mechanism, National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting, the Renewable Energy Target, the Carbon Farming Initiative and the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units.
The Chair and CEO of the Clean Energy Regulator, Chloe Munro, said: “Our first priority is to ensure continuity of service for people who are involved with existing regulatory schemes which support business and industry to reduce their carbon emissions.
“We will be equally focused on providing relevant and timely information to prospective participants in the new carbon pricing mechanism.”
The Clean Energy Regulator will publish a series of guidance notes and application forms about the carbon pricing mechanism and associated schemes, along with the list of entities expected to be liable under the mechanism. The Liable Entities Public Information Database (LEPID) will be published through a staged schedule of updates as the information is made available.
“We look forward to working with scheme participants to help them understand and meet their statutory obligations,” Munro said.
More information on the new statutory authority is available on the Clean Energy Regulator’s website.
