Clean Air and Environment Conference opens in Sydney
The 21st International Clean Air and Environment Conference is being held this week from 9-11 September at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event was opened this morning by the NSW Minister for Environment and Heritage, the Hon Robyn Parker MP.
The conference has been organised by the Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ). The society is committed to the improvement of the environment through the advancement of knowledge and practical experience of environmental and air quality management.
Over 250 delegates from 15 countries will attend the event, themed ‘Clean Air in a Changing Climate’, to share knowledge and address priority areas from a broad range of scientific disciplines. The conference streams include:
- Air quality management
- Odour and its management
- Health issues
- Greenhouse gases
- Energy and strategic policy
- Urban atmospheres
CASANZ President Associate Professor Howard Bridgman said the conference “offers delegates a platform from which to address common problems across a broad range of environmental and scientific issues, discuss achievements and develop strategies to deal with future environmental problems”.
This year, he said, “the conference will formally evaluate advancements made in the field of environmental and air quality science in order to determine future priority areas at both a national and international level”.

- Professor Roy Harrison, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom
- Professor Spyros Pandos, Institute of Chemical Engineering, Greece
- Dr Greg Yarwood, ENVIRON International Corporation, California
- Glynda Bathan, Clean Air Initiative-Asia, Hong Kong and the Philippines
