Chloe Munro to take up new position as Chair/CEO of the Clean Energy Regulator

The Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, the Hon Greg Combet, has announced the appointment of Chloe Munro as Chair/CEO of the new Clean Energy Regulator with effect from 2 April.

The Clean Energy Regulator will implement and administer the carbon price mechanism, the National Greenhouse Energy Reporting Scheme, the Renewable Energy Target, the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units and the Carbon Farming Initiative.

Munro brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked in other environmental and energy fields, as well as having senior executive experience locally and overseas for federal and state governments, and in the private sector.

Since May 2011, Munro has been the Chair of the National Water Commission. She is also the Independent Non-executive Chairman of AquaSure, the consortium building Victoria’s desalination plant and a Non-executive Director of Hydro Tasmania. On taking up her new position, she will resign from her various Board appointments from 31 March 2012.

The Clean Energy Regulator will be a Canberra-based independent statutory authority set up by the Clean Energy Regular Act 2011.

It will comprise a Chair (who will also be the CEO) and between two and four expert members. These appointments are expected to be announced prior to the establishment of the agency.

In the interim, existing arrangements for the National Greenhouse Energy Reporting Scheme, the Renewable Energy Target and the Carbon Farming Initiative will continue as usual.
