Car share hub opens in Sydney's Central Park
Sydney’s $2 billion Central Park development - a mixed-use urban village striving to be the city’s most sustainable urban community - will also deliver Australia’s largest car share pod.
The joint venture partners of the development, Frasers Property and Sekisui House, have partnered with GoGet Car Share to house a fleet of 44 car share vehicles in Central Park’s ‘SuperPod’. This makes it the largest cluster of car share vehicles in Australia, with the greatest diversity of vehicle types - including hatchbacks, wagons, vans, utes, Audis and people movers.
“The SuperPod is all about how car share has become critical for people who want a wardrobe-like choice of vehicles without the needless expense of owning one,” explained GoGet co-founder Bruce Jeffreys. “With these kinds of options, you can literally select a car to fit your mood or errand.
“Residential developers are able to enhance their projects with car share, benefit their surrounding communities and maximise their returns.”
Frasers Property Australia CEO Guy Pahor said the SuperPod will provide much-needed car sharing access for the current and future residents of the precinct and the local community.
“There are already well over 1000 residents who now proudly call Central Park home and will be eagerly awaiting the opening of the GoGet car share service,” he said. “Approximately 8000 people will live or work at Central Park at completion, so this GoGet car sharing facility may well become the busiest in Australia.
“Frasers Property has long been a supporter of the GoGet initiative, having introduced a car share pod at our Trio development in Camperdown back in late 2009 and launching Australia’s largest car share pod today.
“The considerable environmental benefits that the GoGet car share scheme brings, through less congestion on the roads and less car trips, contribute to the world-leading sustainability agenda of Central Park.”
Jeffreys said the SuperPod represents a huge step for the marriage of smart transport and residential development.
