Brightgreen achieves B Corp certification
LED lighting company Brightgreen has become one of only 75 Australian companies to receive B Corporation certification, affirming the company’s position as a leader in all aspects of corporate responsibility.
The achievement is the result of a rigorous evaluation process that takes into account the impact Brightgreen has on the wellbeing of all stakeholders (including employees, suppliers, customers, the community and the environment). It also includes a legally contracted pledge to meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
Brightgreen’s founder and CEO, David O’Driscoll, said his company sits at the forefront of sustainable design and responsible manufacturing processes. For example, Brightgreen lights are free from toxic material and can be sold back for recycling when they eventually reach the end of their lifespan. Furthermore, the company’s Light Up Kenya initiative sees the donation of one solar LED kit to a Kenyan family with every purchase worth at least $2000.
“Going through the assessment process to become a B Corporation helped us realise what we were doing right, and to identify the areas where we can improve,” said O’Driscoll.
“By setting new metrics and goals around our efforts, we have identified the potential to become carbon neutral on both the business and product level by the end of the year, with some of our new products set to be carbon positive.”
