2012 Green Globe Award winners announced
Winners of the 2012 Green Globe Awards were announced at a gala award ceremony hosted by the NSW Minister for the Environment, Robyn Parker, on 3 September at NSW Parliament House.
Parker was particularly impressed by this year’s nominations, which celebrated the individuals and organisations leading the state in environmental innovation.
“Now in their 13th year, the competition is truly intense and becoming even more competitive each year; a testament to the fact that NSW leads the world in a number of areas of sustainability,” Parker said.
This year, the 15 Green Globe Award winners were chosen from a shortlist of 48 finalists that were recognised as the most outstanding entries across the state. Nominations included small and large businesses, individuals, state and local government and community organisations.
An innovative mattress recycling project by Mission Australia took out the Premier’s Award for Environmental Excellence, while the Regional Sustainability Award was presented to the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority.
The Green Globe Awards have long been recognised as one of the most highly regarded accolades for environmental initiatives in the state - and the gala award ceremony event itself is a showcase sustainable event.
Factors such as travel, energy, waste, catering and materials used are all taken into account with the event’s organisation.
The awards themselves are also environmentally friendly, crafted from 100% reclaimed materials that would otherwise have ended up as landfill.
