$155,000 in funding for 38 community groups
The SUEZ environnement Community Grants have been awarded for 2015, recognising 38 community groups across Australia with over $155,000 in funding to help realise their project dreams.
Originally launched in 2013 as the SITA Australia Community Grants, the program provides funding of up to $5000 to social and environmental projects that help create a more sustainable future in communities across Australia. SUEZ environnement CEO Eric Gernath explained, “We look for groups of people who are actively making a positive change to their local community and their environment.”
This year, funding has been granted to 38 lucky groups out of 445 applicants. Gernath said, “The projects that we are directly funding range from primary school community gardens and Men’s Sheds equipment to wheelchair ramp access in a camping centre and therapeutic horseriding programs for disabled children.
“One of the most touching is a very small organisation that supports families with critically ill children get through those little road bumps like paying for hospital parking or helping out with household chores. There are so many great stories in our community and we are grateful to be able to support all these groups in a small way.”
